For DVD's, Japan is Region 2 encoding, same as Europe and the Middle East. However, Japan's TV system is NTSC (same as North America). Amazon.co.uk sells Region 2 DVDs, but most are for the PAL system, so they will NOT work on stardard DVD players. They will work on most computer DVD players, though. http://www.amazon.co.uk/ (Affilate link. Your purchases will support this site.)
Japan's standard format is VHS for video, NTSC for TVs, while the UK standard is PAL format for videos, PAL for TV. You would need special equipment to watch PAL videos. http://www.amazon.co.uk/ (Affilate link. Your purchases will support this site.)
North America is Region 1 encoding for DVDs, but Japan is in Region 2. DVDs purchased through Amazon.com will NOT work on standard DVD players in Japan. You would need a "region-free" DVD player. (Both Japan and North America use NTSC standard TVs.) http://www.amazon.com/ (Affilate link. Your purchases will support this site.)
